The sun once had a friend called Milly who travelled to a city to spend his vacation where he had heard it had been discovered there was no light. This city was called The Black City. Morning could not be differentiated from evening. The people living in this city were suffering as a result of that. No light to work, even no electricity to make work easier and faster. They all lived in fear because of the thick darkness surrounding them.
Milly decided to spend his weekend to confirm what he heard. To his surprise, it was just as true as he heard! No light!. How could he even take pictures to show his dear friend the sun? Farming was the major occupation the inhabitants of this city, they were really suffering. They went to their farms with torches in order to work.
After the weekend, Milly went to the sun and told him a city he had discovered called The Black City where no light could be found there. The sun refused to believe till he had gone to see the city himself.Milly gave him directions and the sun set off the next day. To his surprise, there was no darkness in The Black City, the people living there were very happy people as compared to what Milly had reported to him.
Milly told him the people were always gloomy but he saw the people of The Black City to be happy, they were beaming with smiles all the time. He knew it was the right direction Milly gave him to the city that he used because he used a compass for the direction to the city.He had entered the right city but there was daylight and they could go to their farms but Milly had told him they couldn’t go to their farms to work because it was always dark and if they had to, they had to go with torches meaning getting foodstuffs from the farm to eat too was difficult but he never saw that.They were happy people. He saw a group of farmers returning to their homes happily singing

The sun thought Milly had just played a prank on him. He got angry at Milly for lying to him, making him travel to go and see what he told him was not true.On his return to where he stayed, he went to Milly’s house to ask why he had the guts to play such gimmicks on him. It was then Milly remembered the sun was light and shines everywhere it finds itself. The sun brought the happiness the city was enjoying.
In the same way, we are the light of this world and we must shine everywhere we find ourselves. God intentionally plants us in the darkness in order for us to shine and the works of darkness will be brought to light.
Matthew 5: 14 – 16
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven”
We shouldn’t hide our lights but shine as Jesus has told us in the scripture above. How do we hide our light from those living in darkness around us?- by failing to share the gospel of Christ. Some Christians say they are not greedy but they do not know failing to share the word of God is also a form of greediness. You know a friend who does not live by the standards God has given us but you fail to share the gospel to him or her which would bring the person joy unspeakable, comfort, hope, just to mention a few, but because of your shyness which won’t take you anywhere or a bad attitude of yours .
If it’s because of a bad behavior of yours, ask the Holy Spirit to help you deal with it. His strength is made perfect in our weakness.
2 Corinthians 12:9
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness”
You can’t be putting up a bad attitude and shine as light at the same time. When you try to behave like you’re walking in the light but you know you’re not, you are only being a hypocrite and your sins will find you out. You will never enjoy eternal life with a lukewarm attitude, be all for Jesus or none for Him.
Luke 11 : 35
” Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness.1 John 1:6“If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth”
Light and darkness cannot coexist.
John 1 : 5
“And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it”
You can’t be shining as light and harbour darkness at the same time. Where there is light, darkness disappears. Put away any attitude you know God is not pleased with. God is light and He cannot live together with darkness.
1 John 1: 5
“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all”
You either be in the light or be in the darkness. You can’t on your own stop behaviours that hinder you from shinning the light in you but ask for grace from God. As stated earlier, His strength is made perfect in our weakness.I wonder who enjoys staying in the darkness. Such a person is a weirdo and enjoys doing mischief and it has it’s repercussions. The works of darkness are the works of the devil
Acts 26 : 18
“to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me”
and the devil has nothing good to offer us,
John 10:10
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. …”
that is why we need to ask the Holy Spirit to teach us how to walk in the light of God in order to enjoy peace which we can find nowhere but only in Christ.
John 16:33
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world.”
But you can’t ask the Holy Spirit if you are not His friend or you have no fellowship with Him. He comes into our lives after we accept Jesus as our Lord and personal saviour.If you know you have not accepted Jesus into your life, please say this prayer. He will come and live in you and let you shine and also give you the Holy Spirit.
Lord Jesus, I am a sinner
I come to you today and I accept You as my Lord and personal saviour.
Please forgive my sins and wash me in Your blood.
From today, I live for you and no turning back.
Holy Spirit, please come and be my best friend.
Come and stay in my heart
Please lead and direct me on daily basis.
Thank You Jesus, in Jesus name I have prayed

“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ” I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life”
If you are in the light, shine bright, let everyone see the light of God in you. Ask grace from God to remove any hindrance that prevents you from shinning.Walk in the light of God and shine bright 🔆
